Only people who earn a lot of money are successful.

Have you ever thought about success of your own? What do you prefer it to be? In fact, it’s really difficult to define exactly the word “success”. Some people may take success as earning a lot of money for granted. To some extent, this can be right. But I strongly believe that coming off well is not always the destination of having a lot of money; it means most of successful people are not ones who earn a lot of money.

Those who support the idea people who earn a lot of money are successful may say that being rich, they will have a comfortable life. Their houses are fitted with all modern conveniences such as laptop, air-conditioner, refrigerator, washing-machine and so forth. They can enjoy life by approaching the outside state-of-the-art world through internet, or simply drinking a cool cup of water in a scorching day, breathing fresh air, not worrying anything on family affairs and many other handy. We must admit that their life seems to be really sufficient and ideal. But stop and think about the other side of these positive faces, having a lot of easily lead people to a life of gross self-indulgence. Their life is so good that they don’t care to make it better by doing something useful for their life. So, most of them throw money into day and night parties, even worst, they may be addicted to drug. In this case, for them, money, which leads them to sink deeper in addiction, will be the best solution. Day after day, they cannot escape the vicious circle of themselves. So, is it successful?

Many people may suppose that earning a lot of money makes them more confident by virtue of feeling that they are belongs to the higher position than many others, especially the poor, so they don’t understand many other values of life. They believe that money is power, a key to open any doors lead them to success even though it is illegal. For instance, a lazy student who doesn’t pay much attention to studying, but he feels no worry about his career in the future just because he believes money will help him to buy the degree. This seems to be negative but it still exists in our society, we have to admit that. There is a saying that “money makes the mare go”, many take it for granted. However, this wrong way of thinking easily results one in being self-important. They don’t know the meaning in life is striving for mastery. We have to perfect ourselves through training hard, not depending on what we have, especially money. Do you remember the story of King Midas? He had a wish that whenever his hand toughed anything, it would become gold. But for what? When the dream came true, everything in his palace became gold and so was his beloved daughter. He wanted to be rich to find that he was living in grief. That is a precious lesson for all of us: Money is not all.

Last but not least, people may consider that having a lot of money will enlarge their relationship. Being rich will be a good opportunity to make friends with many people. It may be fun since along with friends, they can establish a club of themselves and have their own activities. There is no doubt that it’s really happy to live in the circle of friendships. However, no one can deny that having a true friendship is not easy at all. For those who are rich, in particular, it’s a problem. We all know the story about a young boy who has a lot of friends when he was rich. But one day no one stands by him when his family was down. His friends just want to take advantage of what he possess – money. We learn a lot from the lesson. For that, there is a saying: “A friend in need is a friend indeed” or “Genuine friends are proved by adversity” (Aesop). Therefore, even though I agree that not all cases are negative, I do believe that earning a lot of money will not often result in success.

For those I have discussed above, I have the reasons to believe that money can give us many materialistic things but to be successful does not mean having a lot of money.
