Today, on newspapers or magazines, I can’t read enough about many different ideas of children’s watching television. Some say it good, some say it bad. Personally, I am of the opinion that television is really good for children since it not only helps them to learn more about science, gives them a lot of lessons of life but also, help them learn better.
At first, as far as I am concerned, many television programs are projected for children to learn science. This is extremely good for children since science helps them to understand more about the surrounding. For instance, thanks to television programs about nature, young people have opportunities to know how many times a humming-bird, the smallest bird on earth, beats its wings in one minute, or how turtles reproduce and how many years they can live. The answer of science can make most of children just want to say “wow, unbelievable!” Can you answer these questions? In Vietnam, the typical program that is able to be mentioned here is “1001 Why Questions” on VTV3. This program not only discusses about nature but whatever related to science such as cosmography, geography, biology and so forth. Truly speaking, science is a full-of-mysterious world for children to discover.
Secondly, most of the television programs give young people educational messages or lessons of life. Children often watch programs like cartoons since perhaps they’re suitable and close to their ages. It’s over 90 percent of young people all over the world like cartoons produced by Walt Disney. Because, aside from the vivid pictures, lovely world of lovely animals, or typical characters, each story has its own meaning and children can learn from that lesson. For example, our little friends admire Fa Mulan for her courage; once they support courage as a good trait, they try to do the same as their idol. So, in real life, they’ll tend to prove they are more and more brave. For example, a little boy has a decayed tooth, it’s really serious but he knows well that he has to see the dentist. That itself is bravery. Or in the works “Beauty and the Beast” – a very famous one, the message was given to all young people is the beauty itself is from the inside of people, not their appearance, and kindhearted persons will finally have a happy ending. As a result, to some extent, those kinds of television programs give young people many invaluable lessons in life.
Nowadays, while many people suppose that watching television is not good for children but we have the reason to believe this activity has positive influential on the youth, especially on their learning. People may say that watching television too much make children neglect their school studies. The evidence for this is some parents look at their son or daughter’s marks and give a heavy sign since the marks gradually drop and drop. But the root of this is not watching TV but watching TV “too much”. Some spend nearly ten hour per day sitting before a TV screen, some even more. It is not good at all. Perhaps, these parents should pay more attention to their children. As saying above, TV is a means of communication that is really useful. Thanks to it, our young friends have opportunities to learn a lot about everything around the world. On TV, it has colorful pictures, it has sound, and it has typical examples, and so on. All of these help children learn quickly, remember in a longer time and thinking creatively. As a result, watching TV properly helps the youth learn better.
In a word, it may be confirmed that watching television properly will be helpful for children.
